A subscription is priced to feel small: a coffee a week, a lunch a month. Nobody prices it per year, because per year it stops feeling small. Six subscriptions at ten dollars a month are $720 a year. On their own, each one is small. Together, they are not. The ones billed yearly hide even better: you pay once, forget, and get surprised twelve months later. That is why the calculator brings them all to the same period, so you can see what they cost in total.
Anything that renews by itself: streaming and music, the phone plan, cloud storage, the gym, apps and software, delivery memberships, insurance paid monthly. Rent and utilities are recurring bills too, but they are not the kind of thing you cancel with a tap; for those, the budget calculator is the better fit.
